CV Objective vs CV Summary — Which to Use?
In 2026, the traditional "CV Objective" (which focused on what you want) has largely been replaced by a "Professional Summary" (which focuses on what you offer). Employers don't care what you want from a job — they care what value you bring. The one exception is entry-level CVs and first-job applications, where an objective that honestly states your goals and enthusiasm is still acceptable and expected.
- Use a Professional Summary if you have 2+ years of experience. Lead with your value.
- Use a Career Objective if you're a student, recent graduate, or career changer. Lead with your direction and potential.
The Golden Rule: Every word in your opening statement should answer the employer's question: "Why should I interview this person?" If a sentence doesn't answer that question, cut it.

The Formula for Any Great Opening Statement
Use this template as your starting point for any CV objective or summary: [Adjective] + [Job Title] + [Years of Experience] + [Key Speciality/Achievement] + [What You're Seeking]. Then personalise it to the specific role you're applying for — change the job title to match the posting, swap the achievement for the one most relevant to that employer, and adjust the "seeking" line to mirror their role description. CVcraft's AI does this personalisation automatically when you paste in a job description.
